Camera Lomo

How to convince my parents to let me get a Lomo camera?

I've offered to pay for the camera, film and development with my own money but my dad still says no. I've been into photography for about four years and now that i'm older (fourteen) i want to extend from digital to something else. I've seen photos of lomo photography and i'm really excited, my dad just can't understand that photography is my passion and that i want to go further than digital. How can i convince him? I've been saving up for this specifically but he just doesn't get it.
Note: I have enough for a Lomo camera, not $900 for photoshop. As i said i'm fourteen and saved up my money from working around the house. Also, he doesn't know anything about cameras, he thinks Lomo cameras and digital cameras are the same

To me Lomo, Diana, Holga, etc are just "toy" cameras. If you want to work with film I would suggest getting an actual camera that you can learn from. The toy cameras normally only have one or two apertures and shutter speeds (some only have one).

Check around your local camera stores, they sell new and used film cameras. The used ones have been cleaned and inspected. I would not buy a used camera online unless it was from a reputable dealer like B&H Photo or KEH cameras.

Explain to him you are really serious about photography, and there is a difference between shooting film and using a digital camera. With film, you you have to really think about each shot. You have to use your knowledge of photography to set the camera for the exposure, with digital if you don't like the [instant] results you just reshoot it. Plus, it opens up the world of developing your own film. To show him you are really wanting to do this, see if he will let you sign up for weekend courses at your local community college (some camera shops also offer beginner and intermediate courses in film).
