Ways to market and distribute your independent film

One of many ways to distribute your film is to enter a theater independent. To do this you need to do a job search. First, learn more about the types of movies each theater. Check out their titles and types of budgets for these films. It will give you a much better idea to see if your movie has a chance to be presented here.

Make a list of what theaters are in your area, most of them will be much smaller than the larger cinemas, we are accustomed. Contact them and ask questions about what their arrangements are tender. Do they do movies via a distributor? Will they take movies of an independent filmmaker themselves? Do you need to complete an application form of some kind?

It would be useful if you've been to a festival and a movie in the list here. It gives credibility and a portfolio of theater production managers.

Download Your Video Online

Use online sources for your movie is another obvious and easy to get your film shown. Most sites are free and easy to use. You can not pay the entry as a theater, but it does not cost you money to promote the film and getting people in seats. Some theaters will also charge you to rent their space, so as to download an online site could be the answer for you to get your film noticed.

Some online sites have a limit to the size of their files may, depending on the quality that you show, you'll have to film cut into sections. Make sure you change your film accordingly significantly.

If you're a business type of person you can always sell your own movies online. Of course, you can sell them in local stores and flea markets too, but you will reach a wider audience online and more.

On sale sites like eBay, iOffer, Amazon and Cafepress, you can get hundreds if not thousands of views and possibly some sales. You need a good marketing and advertising to make good sales on these sites because there are a lot of competition. The fact that this is an original film may or may not help you sell it, but again if you are a good developer, you could do a lot of money.

Using Cafepress has an additional advantage. Not only can they burn your DVD from a file you download, you can design your cover and promotional material like t-shirts, hats and buttons. You can give local people and friends to promote your film. Plus you can sell your movie on Cafepress too. You can also order copies of your film at cost and sell yourself or distribute to local businesses.

Distributors

Find a dealer can be a challenge too. You can find some online and in the yellow pages, make sure they are legitimate by checking with the Better Business Bureau in your area.

Some Sites Online, you can try are: Independent Film Distribution, Avatar Films, IFC (Independent Film Channel), yes, they accept the bid for independent films, see submission guidelines. Underground films, independent films and films of Atom. There are many more, just do a search for them and you can find the Good for you.

Remember to read any contract carefully and completely. Make sure to give the dealer the right to distribute the film and nothing else. Make sure you do not give them too much money to do it, they did a reduction in sales, but make sure they do receive only what is right for them. Having a look at the contract lawyer is always a good idea if you can afford one.

I shot a film, a rough cut iDid in Adobe Premiere Pro. My producer thinks he can transfer the file to Final Cut Pro and do all the tweaking to be done there. Is this possible?

Perhaps, but it is not easy. What types of files you editing in Premiere, QuickTime are they? You'll need to export a list EDL (edit decision list) as Final Cut Pro can read and video files that FCP can use. You should also be prepared for errors. Export a version of your edition of creating a code window showing the time frame. You can have the time code read data from the original clip or timeline that you created.
