What kind of filters Lens should I use for / photos head picture?
I get confused for each purchase of a UV or polarizing filter for my Canon 50mm 1.4 lens. I am portrait and headshots, which filter should I buy with a good headshot photo or portrait? UV or polarizing, or if your recommendation. Thank you
In portraiture, the only time you ever thought about using a polarizer is a shot wide with lots of sky, like on a big hill or something like that. Polarizers are more typical of the landscape or cityscape, a kind of landscape photography, the picture is completely different. You'll end up with 2 people tone. You can put a UV filter on if you want. Its not going to make much difference one way or another. It is good protection for your lens. The filters can be somewhat helpful, and you can reproduce these effects in post, is a focus blur filter (inset) and a diffuser. If you go to the trouble with a diffuser, get something good. Tiffen is what comes to mind for me. You get what you pay for. They are excellent for portraits of women. As I said though, you can reproduce this effect in post with Lucisart SE or something similar. If you think outside the box a bit, maybe try a Lensbaby. Good Luck.
