you can consider Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Lens I bought the SLD 70-300mm Sigma F4-5.6 DG Macro lens for my Nikon D40 .. the lens is equipped with a motor drive and autofocus does very well with the Nikon D40 D40X .. D60.I and shoot mostly landscapes, animals, birds, flowers and took pictures with this nice 70-300mm telephoto and macro. This objective has no image stabilization but using the lens without a tripod does not seem to be a big problem because I have not had many blurred photos ..
